As long-in-the-tooth followers of British Christian music will tell you, As If. . . have been around for many a long year and by the late ’90s had established a sizeable festival following with their techno-tinged pop rock. Now the Buckinghamshire trio return with a powerful, captivating rock album, produced, mixed and mastered by the band’s lead singer Phil Goss. Here the band deliver a more organic and alternative rock sound you’re not used to, but they still have hints of that ’90s feel but now with a bit of the experimental which is intriguing throughout. The standout tracks include the opener “Land Of The Blind” and the epic 11 minute title track with its hints of early Delirious? in the way it opens up with cosmic synths, builds up into crunchy guitars and dies down to the feel of a traditional chorale. Brilliant stuff from a band still on the cusp of studio creativity.
